Em 2012, o Instituto da UNESCO para Aprendizagem ao Longo da Vida (UIL) launched a new initiative offering scholarships to researchers and education professionals from UNESCO Member States. Research Scholarships generally run every September, though under special circumstances, Scholarships may run in other months. Research Scholars conduct their research at the UIL Library for a period of one month. In addition, they have the opportunity to exchange knowledge with other scholars, UIL staff and UIL’s external partners. UIL covers travel and accommodation costs and contributes a lump sum towards the costs of food, visas, etc.
Since the UIL Research Scholarship programme was launched in 2012, a total of 52 scholars have taken part.
Research Scholarships are funded by private donations. To date, donations have been kindly made by:
- the British educationalist Peter Jarvis and his publisher Taylor & Francis;
- the Nomura Centre for Lifelong Integrated Education in Japan; and
- the US educationalist Alexander Charters
